Dear Residents, As we approach the festive season, your local police team would like to share some important winter safety tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe.
Personal Safety Dress in layers: Wear several thin layers of loose-fitting clothing instead of one thick layer to trap warm air. Cotton, wool, and fleece are great choices.Cover up: Wear a hat to prevent heat loss, a scarf to protect your lungs, gloves or mittens, and waterproof boots with good grip.Be aware of ice: Sidewalks and roads may be slippery—take extra care when walking or driving.Know the signs of hypothermia: Watch for confusion, shivering, difficulty speaking, sleepiness, or stiff muscles. Seek medical attention immediately if these signs appear.
Home Safety Heat your home: Keep indoor temperatures at least 18°C (64°F).Check heating systems: Ensure fireplaces, chimneys, and heating systems are clean and working properly.Install smoke alarms: Test alarms and replace batteries if needed.
Community Safety Check on neighbours: Especially the elderly or those living alone.Offer support: Help others stock up on food and medication if needed.Keep pets indoors: Bring pets inside before storms to protect them from the cold.
Stay safe, stay warm, and look out for one another this winter. Your Local Police Team Cann Hall Snt
